Accounting is a vital yardstick for measuring the financial progress of a business, a company, and even an entire economy. Finance and accounting teams are responsible for the economic well-being of organisations. Timely transaction recording, reporting, and rigorous review processes are critical and crucial for the growth of the organisations.

Most finance teams are human-centric, and manual operations dominate the processes from transaction posting, reconciliations, to the preparation of financial reports, MIS, and other management information.

Finance teams are hitting a tipping point

Fast-growing businesses and increasing compliance burden - never-ending compliances under Income Tax, GST, Companies Act, and other labour laws are making finance teams on tenterhooks.

In India and the Middle East, 90% of businesses (~2.5 million) operate on Tally, an accounting software. Tally is a legacy software application built on Tally Developer Language ("TDL") with closed architecture, and integrating with other financial and business information systems (banking, CRM, payroll, and others) is hard and challenging. This is the same even with large ERPs like SAP and Oracle. As a result, most finance teams operate on siloed systems and struggle with information exchange for day-to-day accounting tasks.

Technologies like Optical Character Recognition ("OCR"), Robotic Process Automation ("RPA"), API integrations, etc., have been around for years, but organisations need engineering bandwidth to build solutions and automate processes. A vast majority of organisations don't have in-house capabilities.

Due to a lack of intelligent and integrated information systems, finance teams spend a significant amount of time and resources on repetitive, boring, and mundane tasks such as number crunching, invoice processing, payments, and reconciliations. As the scale of the business and organisation grows, finance teams become more bloated with more inefficiencies and process breakdowns.
